Who We Are

The Domestic Violence Center of Howard County was founded in 1978, as a private non-profit comprehensive agency, and is still the sole provider of  domestic violence services in Howard County.  Being a comprehensive agency, the DVC helps all members of the family including women, children and men impacted by violence.  The safety of our clients is our primary concern.

The mission of the DVC is to reduce the harm and effects of domestic violence while
working towards its elimination in Howard County.

All DVC services are completely confidential and all fees are based on income.
The DVC is guided by the philosophy that:

  • No one deserves to be physically, emotionally, verbally, sexually or financially abused
  • Our clients have the capacity to help themselves and make their own decisions with the Center acting as the facilitator and advocate
  • Each individual who needs our services, whether victim or abusive partner, deserves our respect, compassion and support
  • Violence is a learned behavior that can be changed with appropriate intervention
  • Active support for improved laws and governmental policies to benefit victims of domestic violence is essential
