How can I volunteer at the Domestic Violence Center?
Volunteer Programs(Training
Required) 24-hour Helpline: Helpline
volunteers provide helpline callers with
information, referrals, and crisis intervention
when necessary. Calls are answered
from home and volunteers generally work
one 4-hour shift per week. Must
be 21 years of age.
Legal Advocacy Project: Legal
advocate volunteers provide support, information
and referrals in the courthouse for clients
seeking protective orders. No prior
legal experience required. Volunteers
generally work one 4-hour shift per month. Must
be at least 18 years of age.
Child Care Assistants: Child
care assistants provide care for the children
of our clients. Play games, read stories,
create art, and help supervise children
while parents attend counseling. Volunteers
are needed evenings, Monday-Thursday. Must
be at least 16 years of age.
Residential Assistants: Residential
Assistants meet once a month (on the fourth
Saturday of each month) to work on projects,
which may include gardening, yard work,
painting, cleaning, organizing or even
projects that volunteers propose. This
is a great opportunity for those volunteers
with special talents or skills! Must
be at least 18 years of age. Throughout
the year, the DVC has many one-time volunteer
opportunities that do not require training.
