How’s your dating relationship?  Here’s a test:

Are you being abused?

  • Are you frightened of your partner’s temper and afraid to disagree?

  • Has your partner used force to prevent you from leaving a room, car or other area?

  • Do you not see friends or family because of your partner’s jealousy?

  • Does your partner make you justify everything you do, every place you go and everyone you talk to?

  • Has your partner threatened to harm or kill you or him/herself if you leave the relationship?

Are you abusive?

  • Do you regularly ridicule, criticize or insult your partner?

  • Do you sometimes become violent when you drink and/or use drugs?

  • Have you ruined or broken your partner’s possessions or thrown things at him/her?

  • Have you ever forced your partner to have sex or made him/her afraid to refuse?

  • Do you constantly call or text message your partner to check up on him/her?

If you’re in an abusive relationship, take it seriously.

It gets worse over time and there are fewer and fewer “good times.”

Tell your friends and family about what is going on and ask for their support to help you get out of the relationship.

Call the Domestic Violence Center’s 24-Hour Helpline to talk confidentially about your relationship.
